The Fritz Thyssen Foundation supports scientific conferences in Germany or at the international level with the aim of facilitating the discussion and analysis of specific scholarly questions as well as fostering cooperation and networking of scholars working in the same field or on interdisciplinary topics.
Applications can be filed in the following areas of support:
- History, Language & Culture
- The interdisciplinary field “Image–Sound–Language”
- State, Economy and Society
- Medicine and the Natural Sciences
Applications must have a clear connection to the German research system:
- German scientists working on the project and/or
- non-German scientists being affiliated to German research institutes and/or
- research topic related thematically to German research interests.
Conferences should have max. 15-20 speakers. Congresses or larger conferences or sections within the framework of symposia, annual conferences, etc., or purely doctoral workshops or summer schools cannot be supported.
Who can apply: applicants holding a PhD and based at a university or research institute anywhere in the world.
Funding: travel expenses for speakers, accommodation costs, meals for participants and speakers, up to EUR 1’000 to defray incidental conference costs (printing of flyers and posters, conference support by student helpers or assistants, rental of conference rooms etc.) and childcare costs incurred during the conference. The foundation does not cover speakers’ fees and overheads.
Deadlines: 28 February, 31 May, 31 August, 30 November (every year).
Decision: 8-10 weeks after the call deadline.
Earliest start: at least 6 months after the call deadline.
