The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) invites applications for the Ralph Brown expedition award.
 
This supports the leader of an expedition involving the study of an aquatic environment (less than 200m). This includes the study of coral reefs, rivers, lakes and shallow seas. The project should be of value to the host country and, where possible, to the local community.
 
Who can apply: Applicants must be Fellows or members of the Society. The grant is open to applicants from any nation.
 
Funding:

  • one award worth £12,500 is available towards fieldwork lasting 4-6 weeks.
  • Equipment costs should not comprise more than 10% of the total budget. Conference costs and overheads are not covered. Salaries for research staff are not eligible for funding (but replacement costs for teaching assistance to free up research time of the principal investigator may be considered).
  • Additional funding worth £1,500 is available to enable an undergraduate student to join the expedition.
  • Co-funding is expected.
 
Deadline: 23 November 2019
  • Two referee statements are required. Both referees should be independent of the research activities and institution.
  • Applications should be submitted by email to the Society’s Grants Officer ([email protected]) by 23 November.
