- Colloquium - Greenhouse Studies II - 2025
Monday 3 November, 14:00–18:00
Rolex Learning Centre (RLC G1 350 - Table de Valotton)
Welcome note by Dr. Tiago P. Borges, Laboratory EAST
Lectures by Dr. Sascha Roesler (USI), Luca Volpi (Societat Orgànica) and STUDIO SOTNAS.
What is a greenhouse without the 'green'? Or a Jardin d'Hiver without winter? As part of the 'Tackle the Type' series, the Greenhouse Studies design studios explore the potential of greenhouses and other microclimatic structures in the context of contemporary challenges. Alongside the design studio, Laboratory EAST organises an international colloquium to enable students to expand their knowledge of the subject by learning from external leading experts. This year, we are pleased to welcome:
Professor Sascha Roesler (USI), an urban scholar and architectural theorist working at the intersection of architecture, ethnography and science and technology studies. Professor Roesler will discuss the key concept of thermal governance +
Luca Volpi, an architect and sustainability consultant and partner at Societat Orgànica (Barcelona and Lisbon), will present strategies for designing low-impact buildings in consideration of climate +
Gonçalo André Pires is a partner at STUDIO SOTNAS, an architectural practice based in Aarhus and Lisbon. He will present SOTNAS' work, in which the technical dimensions of the practice are translated into designs with cultural, environmental, and structural significance +
This year's Greenhouse Studies II – Colloquium will close with an open discussion.
