Abstract: I will present a proof of Beauville's conjecture regarding algebraic cycles on Hilbert schemes of points on K3 surfaces (joint work with Davesh Maulik). The talk will focus more on the context of the problem and the interesting role played by the Virasoro algebra, rather than on the technical details.
