As part of a reciprocal exchange, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers 1 -2 scholarships to Switzerland in all fields of study for the 2019 academic year. The aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between the grantee’s country and Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.
Eligibility for doctoral scholarships:
- MA or professional degree in Japan or overseas OR
- Graduate students who have been involved in research study at universities or research centres for 2+ years OR
- Students recognized as having academic abilities equivalent to or better than master’s degree or professional degree holders in an individual entrance qualification examination conducted by the host graduate school in Japan, and who have reached 24 years of age.
- Born on or after April 2, 1984.
- Are NOT eligible:
- Japanese nationals.
- Students enrolled in a Japanese university when the scholarship begins.
- Students receiving other scholarship money on top of MEXT funding.
Arrival in Japan: early April or early October 2019
A change in the arrival period is not permitted after the submission of the Application.
Funding:
- Allowance: 145,000 yen per month.
- Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities.
- Travelling expenses to and from Japan.
