The Julius Baer Foundation is interested in supporting the development of projects and programmes that present an innovative approach to recycling materials that makes good business sense. The Foundation sees its role not only as a donor but also as a partner that can offer the knowledge and experience of its employees, both at the Foundation and at the Julius Baer Bank.
 
Specificities: the PI can be based in Switzerland and be affiliated to a Swiss university or research institute, but the project must be implemented abroad (i.e. any country except for Switzerland, Austria and Germany).
 
What: The Foundation is particularly looking for projects that link waste management with the production and consumption phase:

  • Applicants must demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and innovative methods in how they take materials that have been collected and either repurpose them or reuse them in an environmentally friendly way. 
  • The Foundation is also interested in initiatives that use environmentally friendly materials or recyclable packaging right at production level. 
  • Waste management projects are not eligible.
 
Duration: 3 years
 
Funding: between CHF 50,000 and CHF 100,000 p.a. and per project. 
  • The grant can cover up to 50% of the total project costs.
  • 75-80% of the grant should be used outside of Switzerland.
  • Eligible costs: all project-related costs and overheads (incl. salaries, office rent maintenance, communication, materials and fundraising costs). 
 
Deadline: All year round

  • The call foresees the submission of a full proposal.
  • The Board meets 4 times a year to review grant applications.
