In the near future portions of the city will be operated and populated exclusively by robotics. The architect Iain Macdonald in this lecture gives an introduction to these Automated Spaces, some of which already exist. Drawing from his experience in designing data centers and urban logistics centers, Macdonald provides a vision of the architectural and urban consequences of the automation revolution. How will these spaces function? To what extent should they be transparent to, and understandable by their human neighbors?
