Denis Kochan is an associate professor of theoretical condensed-matter physics, with current appointments at National Cheng-Kung University (Taiwan) and the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He received his PhD from Comenius University in Bratislava and completed his habilitation in theoretical physics at University of Regensburg in Germany.

His research focuses on quantum transport and spin-dependent phenomena in low-dimensional and proximity-engineered materials. He works at the interface of condensed-matter theory, mesoscopic physics, and quantum materials, with particular emphasis on spintronics, superconductivity, and topological and relativistic effects emerging in graphene-based and van der Waals heterostructures. His contributions include theoretical descriptions of spin relaxation mechanisms, spin–orbit coupling, magnetochiral and non-reciprocal transport, and superconducting hybrid systems.
