Abstract: This seminar explores the implementation of compliant mechanisms as soft robot bodies, enhancing adaptability for navigating unstructured environments. Compliant mechanisms provide a highly deformable and flexible structure, leveraging elasticity for energy storage and conformability as unique robotic functions. I will present examples of robot designs featuring compliant components and discuss the design process, from mechanism design and modeling to robotic implementation.
Bio: Sareum is a postdoctoral researcher at the Computational Robot Design & Fabrication(CREATE) Lab, EPFL. Her research focuses on developing physically intelligent robotic system. She received her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the UC Berkeley, where she studied bio-inspired and compliant mechanism design for adaptable robot bodies. She
received BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul NationalUniversity
