Mirabilia is a visual experience. A wooden pavilion is constructed in the large patio at the Rolex Centre. Visitors are invited to walk in, sit down and look out of the window. This window, which is fitted with mirrors, offers a spectacular view.
The pavilion is composed of a room from which the spectator can see a section of the landscape. The idea is to offer an interior which allows spectators to set the tone and take in the exterior. This window which is enticing to look through, is also a sort of a painting that reflects an image of an exterior reconstructed and rearranged by a system of mirrors. These mirrors project a fragment of the landscape which is familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. The landscape, although recognizable, offers an elusive image.
With Mirabilia, the Cultures and Arts office at EPFL pursue the presentation of works of art that make use of the architecture of the Rolex Learning Center and the landscape which surrounds it. These visual setups reflect amplify and recompose the architectural and aesthetic dimensions of the building and its environment.
Opening: Thursday 21 April at 6:30 p.m.
The pavilion is open: Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Saturday-Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
