The Myotubular Trust was set up in the UK in 2006 to raise money for research aimed at finding a cure and/or a treatment for any form of centronuclear and myotubular myopathy (congenital X-linked recessive; congenital autosomal recessive; autosomal dominant).
The Myotubular Trust supports proof of principle translational research projects that:
- Are not generally funded by public or industrial funding.
- Are NOT funded by another body (unless funding comes from collaborating institutions).
- Ongoing projects are eligible.
- New and emerging technologies and interventional therapies are encouraged.
- Involve preferably different medical disciplines and research institutions.
The foundation offers the following funding instruments:
Project grants
- Who can apply: tenured or tenure-track professors anywhere in the world. Research is carried out by postdoctoral researchers or PHD students.
- Duration: 24-36 months
- Funding: no upper or lower limit (the level of funding will depend on the foundation’s fund-raising). Eligible costs: personnel, consumables, equipment, animal costs, travel.
- Who can apply: postdoctoral researchers or PHD students at a host institution anywhere in the world.
- Type of research funded: non-clinical, basic research.
- Duration: 36-48 months
- Funding: the fellow’s salary + max. £ 10’000 p.a. for research and travel costs.
