The Federal Council mandated the SNSF to launch a 2nd call for the National Research Programme "Advancing 3R – Animals, Research and Society" (NRP 79). An amount of CHF 2M is available for this 2nd call. This will be used to fund about 8 further projects.

This 2nd call will specifically focus on the humanities and social sciences and will target the following focus area:

  • Ethics and society: research into ethical, conceptual and societal issues connected with the 3Rs and the use of animals for scientific purposes.
Research outputs sought are not only traditional outcomes, but also non-traditional outputs such as building and promoting dialogue with the public and public outreach.

2 Types of funding:
  • Postdoctoral fellowships: for postdocs with initial experience in project management, Swiss nationality or Swiss degree, employed by a Swiss institution for the entire duration of the fellowship. The fellowships must start max. 5 years after the PhD defense date. Please contact [email protected] at least 2 weeks prior to the deadline for the institutional support letter.
  • Project funding: for individual applicants or team of applicants who are independent. Possibility to involve research groups abroad. Although interdisciplinary projects are most welcome, projects in a single discipline are equally eligible.
Funding: CHF 300K – 500K but budgets below or above this range are possible if sufficiently justified.

Duration: 36-48 months
