The Nutricia Research Foundation was established in 1989 in the Netherlands to financially support scientific research projects by young researchers in the field of Nutrition and Health. The Foundation also recognises the importance of giving young scientists the possibility to attend research trainings and/or perform short research projects at renowned scientific institutes. Finally, it supports several endowed chairs at universities in the Netherlands and abroad.
Research Grants
- What: nutrition-related research projects.
- Who can apply: young scientists (PhD students or < 10 years after PhD) anywhere in the world. Senior investigators can apply as co-applicants. Applicants from developing countries are encouraged.
- Funding & Duration: max. EUR 30’000 for 12 months.
- Eligible costs: personnel, consultant costs, equipment, supplies, human volunteers, other expenses. Does NOT support: travel costs, overheads and investment in permanent equipment.
- Success rate: 11% (8-9 grants, 60-79 applications per year).

International Training Fellowships
- What: visiting of renowned institutes and performing research training in human nutrition (e.g. to learn new techniques and to perform short research projects not possible at your current institute).
- Who can apply: young scientists (PhD students or Postdocs < 5 years after PhD) anywhere in the world. Applicants from developing countries are encouraged.
- Funding & Duration: max. EUR 25’000 for 12 months (for a shorter stay of 1-3 months, apply for the Short Term International Training Fellowships, which offer EUR 2’000 per month).
- Eligible costs: Accommodation and other expenses to which the cost for necessary flights based on competitive economy class fares may be added.
- Application: fill out the application form available on the call webpage and join a letter of invitation from the host institution, a letter of recommendation from the current head of unit and, if applicable, ethics authorisations.

This year’s call will open on 1 July 2021.
Deadline: 16 September (every year)
Projects which cannot be started before 1 October need to be resubmitted at the new round.
