The conservativity conjecture states that a morphism between two motives is
an isomorphism if and only if its realisation is. This is a central conjecture in the
theory of motives with many concrete consequences on algebraic cycles. The goal of
my talk will be to introduce this conjecture, describe some of its consequences and
discuss a possible approach towards its solution.
