Abstract: A seminal theorem in geometric representation theory is the Beilinson-Bernstein localisation theorem: the flag variety, a projective variety, behaves from the point of view of differential operators like an affine variety, in that the global sections functor gives an equivalence between sheaves and modules for the algebra of global differential operators. Although this phenomenon seems to be very special to flag varieties, recast in terms of micro-local geometry there is now an emerging more general theory. We will discuss localisation theory in the case of Hamiltonian reduction. This is joint work with Tom Nevins.
