PIRE (Partnerships for International Research and Education).
Deadline for preliminary proposals: September 14 2016. Full Proposals: April 24 2017.
“Partnerships for International Research and Education“ (PIRE) is a programme run by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the US. The NSF funds all areas of science and engineering except for areas funded by the National Health Institute (NIH). PIRE aims at promoting excellent science and building research capacities through international collaboration. Swiss teams in successful PIRE applications will be funded by the SNSF.
The US researchers submits the application as main applicant to the NSF. The Swiss collaborator must submit the completed registration form, available on the SNSF webpage, to the SNSF.
The funding amount awarded to Swiss teams participating in the programme, for a project with a duration of four years, is in line with the Project Funding Regulations of the SNSF and counts as a separate budget. The eligible costs for collaboration in a PIRE project correspond to the eligible costs in project funding.
Participation in PIRE does not count as an additional project and is exempt from the limited amount of parallel ongoing SNSF projects an applicant can have.
