I'll discuss the basics of quantum computing, how Shor's algorithm allows a quantum computer to factor numbers efficiently using the quantum Fourier transform. I'll try to convey as much intuition as possible, to explain the relevant basics of quantum mechanics, and to give an idea of the capabilities of quantum computers.
