In the first part of this talk, we shall discuss in several simple examples the appearance of an R-matrix (in the sense of quantum integrability, i.e., a solution of the Yang--Baxter equation) in a geometric context. We shall eventually explain how these are all particular occurrences of a construction due to Maulik and Okounkov. In the second part of this talk, we shall discuss the case of quiver varieties of type A, and how we derive from those solutions of the quantum Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation.
