I will explain various approaches to the ring of tautological classes in the cohomology of M_g and its DM compactification including Faber's conjectures, Faber-Zagier relations, Pixton's relations, and the geometry of spin curves. The talk represents joint work with A. Pixton and D. Zvonkine.
