The A*STAR Investigatorship (A*I) is a prestigious research award designed to attract the most promising young researchers from around the world to do independent research at A*STAR. It was initiated to nurture the next generation of scientific leaders in biomedical sciences, physical sciences and engineering research.
Tenability
The Investigatorship will be tenable at one of A*STAR’s prestigious research institutes. A*STAR Investigators will select a mentor from A*STAR's research institutes and will be able to harness existing talents, equipment, and other resources as they conduct and publish their research independently.
Duration and Remuneration
Investigatorships may be awarded for a period of 6 years, depending on a positive interim review by A*STAR.
Successful candidates will receive an attractive remuneration package. Settling-in and housing allowances will be provided for overseas candidates according to A*STAR’s prevailing policies, if applicable.
Research Grant
In addition to the salary, successful applicants will receive research funding of up to SGD 6 million dollars over six years. The funding can be used for set up costs, funding of research staff, equipment, consumables and travel subject to A*STAR terms and conditions.
Doctorate Degree
Applicants must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent at the start of the Investigatorship (but not necessarily at the time of application). Applicants who do not hold a PhD degree at the time of application must pass their PhD exam before they can start their Investigatorship (by August 2016 for this upcoming call). Confirmation of award of the PhD will be required before any Investigatorship award is confirmed.
Age
Applicants should ideally be 35 years of age or younger. Exceptions may be made for researchers who have taken breaks between their research career and those whose training requires longer duration. A*STAR reserves the right to consider applications from exceptional individuals who fall outside of these guidelines.
