Since many years, the Remote Sensing Research Group, Institute of Geography, University of Bern receives, archives and processes satellite data of the NOAA- and MetOp-series for near-real time applications and climate related studies. The talk will provide a short overview on the sensor and archived data and an introduction to the pre-processing will be given. The main focus of the presentation is dedicated to the retrieval of ECVs (lake surface temperature and snow cover) for near-real time as well as long-term applications. Selected examples of time series will be presented and discussed.
