For the first time, LS2 will organize a “Women in Science Career lunch” during its 2014 annual meeting.
This event is aimed primarily at women pursuing a PhD degree, postdoctoral training or in their first junior independent group leader position, but is also open to men interested in family-career conciliation issues and gender bias. The major aim is to provide career support and advice to women, who are currently still largely under-represented in academia.
It will consist of a series of round table discussions, each moderated by at least one mentor, including:
-Susan Gasser (FMI)
-Monica Gotta (UNIGE)
-Nouria Hernandez (UNIL)
-Suliana Manley (EPFL)
-Sophie Martin (UNIL)
-Dominique Soldati-Favre (UNIGE)
-Anne Spang (UNIBAS)
-Gisou van der Goot (EPFL)
Kindly register for the event in writing an email to Dr Julie Deuquet. Moreover, we would also appreciate if you can indicate which theme you would be interested
in discussing (choose one) by sending an email to Julie Deuquet ([email protected]):
- Applying for an academic position
- Applying for postdoc
- Family and career issues
- Attitude towards and of women in the workplace
- Dual career couples
- Setting up your first laboratory
Deadline for registration is January 10th 2014, on a first-come first-served basis.
We reserve the possibility of closing the event in case of over-subscription.
The proportion of female tenured professors in the life sciences in Switzerland is less than 20%.
You are in charge of improving women’s representation. What would you do first?
Entries will be accepted from both women and men. They must be less than 100 words in
English and sent to [email protected] with the subject line “Women in Science”, by February 6th
2014. The best three, judged by a panel from the Women in Science session, will receive
monetary prizes of CHF 150. Selected entries will be published anonymously on the LS2
website.
