Thanks to an annual contribution of CHF 250’000 by the Käthe Zingg-Schwichtenberg (KZS) Fund, the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences (SAMS) supports research projects by junior researchers in biomedical ethics.

The 2021 call supports empirical or theoretical research projects investigating the «Access to medical and nursing care in the event of resource scarcity» from a clinical ethics and/or public health ethics perspective.

Supported projects must help to understand how the experience of the pandemic has changed – and is still changing – perceptions and assessments of equity and distribution debates in the event of resource scarcity. Projects must be of relevance to Switzerland and be in the planning stage; funding will NOT be provided for ongoing projects.

Who can apply:

  • Doctoral and postdoctoral, non-tenured researchers, aiming at an academic career in the field of biomedical ethics and active at a research institution in Switzerland by the time of the submission deadline and for the intended duration of the grant.

Funding:
  • Max. CHF 250K. No minimum amount
  • Eligible costs: project-related costs and a portion of the PI’s salary.

Duration:
  • Max. 24 months.

Deadline: 31 August 2021
Evaluation by the KZS expert committee.
Decision: 30 November 2021
Earliest start: 1 January 2022
