"The Economic Value of Local Social Networks"
Abstract
While it is widely believed that local social networks yield economic benefits, this claim has not been examined using methods that might permit confident statements about causality. We fill this gap by examining what happens to firms that become affiliated with highly connected local individuals. We adopt a quasi-experimental approach, combining difference-in-differences and propensity score matching to address selection and other identification challenges.
