The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has commissioned the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) as Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with partner institutions in South Asia and Iran, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In 2021, the Leading House for South Asia and Iran opened a call for proposals for Research Partnership Grants.
The goal of the Research Partnership Grants is to:
- foster new partnerships
- allow existing partnerships to grow and develop, with the objective of preparing a grant application for a full joint research project or develop joint teaching.
- support emerging research talent, by integrating PhD students in international collaborations.
Who can apply:
- The PI must be a permanent Swiss resident, employed at a Swiss federal and cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, universities of teacher education, as well as public research institutions.
- The Swiss applicant’s collaborator in the concerned partner country needs to be a scientist with permanent employment or employment lasting until the end of the project with the institutional partner. The principal investigator/researcher in South Asia or Iran must be affiliated to an accredited university or a public research institute and must hold a faculty or scientist position in addition to several years of research or practical experience.
Funding & Duration: max. CHF 35’000 for up to 12 months
Eligible costs: equipment, work-related institutional costs, Travel, Subcontracting, Networking and communication (incl. costs for o.a. publications).
Matching funds and in-kind contributions: Both the applicant and the partner institute abroad are required to make in-kind (e.g. work hours, usage of office or laboratory equipment, field visits, etc.) contributions to the proposed research project. The Swiss applicant is required to make a financial contribution in addition to the one in-kind. It is recommended that the partner institute abroad make a financial contribution as well.
Call timeline:
- Deadline: 15 January 2022
- Decision: end of April 2022
- Earliest project start: must be in 2022
