The University of St. Gallen, through its Centro Latinoamericano-Suizo (CLS-HSG), has been mandated by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), to act as Leading House granting incentives and developing joint research cooperation programs with the Latin American region.

SEED MONEY GRANTS
- Aim: strengthen or initiate scientific exchanges between researchers from Swiss and Latin American institutions in all disciplines by enabling them to jointly undertake preliminary research and organize meetings, conferences and workshops. Seed Money Grants are particularly useful to develop joint project proposals for large funding agencies in Latin America, Switzerland and Europe or to combine already existing and independently funded projects in Switzerland and the partner countries in order to create long lasting cooperation.
- Who can apply: any researcher holding a position at an eligible Swiss institution, except for MA and PhD students whose proposal must be submitted by their supervisor. 2017 Grantees can apply again but with a different project.
- Funding: up to CHF 25,000.
- Eligible costs: project-related costs, travels, workshops, conferences, consumables, accommodation, equipment, fieldwork, essential software.
- Does NOT cover: salaries, tuition fees, overheads, outsourced services and hardware.
- Co-funding from both Swiss and LAC partners is expected.
- Duration: 10-12 months

MOBILITY GRANTS
- Aim: promotes the integration of the next generation of scientists in international collaboration, helping to build new partnerships through personal contacts, mutual trust, and to make cooperation more sustainable.
- Who can apply: researchers enrolled in a PhD or Postdoc program.
- Funding: up to CHF 8,000.
- Eligible costs: travel expenses, accommodation and consumables, fieldwork.
- Does NOT cover: salaries, visa, health, private insurance and overheads.
- Duration: up to 3 months
