Autonomous field robots combined with artificial vision find interesting applications in agriculture. ecoRobotix, a start-up located in Yverdon, has developed a solar-powered, fully autonomous machine for highly-efficient chemical weeding in various crops. Thanks to real-time plant classification using deep-learning, and to Delta robotic arms with spraying nozzles, the machine detects and sprays only the weeds, resulting in 95% herbicide reduction, with ecological and economical benefits. This talk will present the operation of the machine, its design, and the possibilities of agriculture robotics in general. Some aspects of the startup creation process, from the technical idea and the business model to the investment steps and the company structuration will also be shared.
