Abstract
The world’s population is predicted to exceed 9 billion people by 2050. How can farmers continue to provide plentiful, nutritious, and safe food, with diminishing natural resources in an increasingly unpredictable climate? What role does chemistry play in agriculture and what are the challenges and opportunities facing chemists today and in the future? This seminar will highlight the fundamental drivers for the crop protection industry, outline the invention process for a new agrochemical, touch on the paradox of the ideal product, and suggest how integrating technologies at the interfaces of science and engineering will provide innovative solutions for growers, helping them to meet the food security challenge.
