Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s Research Program (PRARP) Awards. The PRARP Innovations in Care and Support Award supports innovative and impactful research that improves the quality of life and care for individuals, families, and care providers living with the common symptoms of traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, and/or Alzheimer’s disease related dementias. The proposed work should innovatively challenge existing research paradigms or exhibit high levels of creativity within the contexts of the PRARP’s mission and vision. This can include innovations and research for symptom reduction (e.g., cognitive, behavioral, function, mood), resiliency factors, increasing or maintaining independence, and support for families and care providers.  All applications must be Innovation- and Impact-based.

This call offers two levels of funding: one geared toward postdocs and non-faculty-level researchers (level I), and another that is open to PIs at the assistant professor level or above (level II).


Funding:        Level I – max. $225’000
                        Level II – max $500’000

Duration:      3 years

Eligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are eligible to apply, and there are no citizenship restrictions. For Funding Level I, The named PI must be at least at the postdoctoral level (e.g., research associate, fellow, medical resident, or equivalent) but below the level of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) at the time of the application submission deadline. Applications must include at least one Mentor. The PI must write the Project Narrative and other application components, with appropriate guidance from the Mentor(s). For Funding Level II, the named PI must be an independent investigator at or above the level of assistant professor (or equivalent).

How to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information, a letter of intent (1-page), and a list of collaborators and key personnel as suggested on the platform. Full applications (by invitation) will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Full application packages can be downloaded from Grants.gov at any time.
