Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the Epilepsy Research Program (ERP) for 2018. The intent of the ERP Longitudinal Risk Factors Award is to support a large-scale, prospective, longitudinal epidemiological research study that is relevant to the characterization of post-traumatic epilepsy.
 
Due to the intent of this mechanism, preliminary data are required.  In addition, expedited access to an already identified, suitable study cohort that will support the proposed hypothesis or hypotheses is required. 
 
The research impact for the FY18 ERP LRFA is expected to benefit the military, Veteran, and civilian communities.  To this end, applications must address at least one of the FY18 ERP IDA Focus Areas.  The Focus Areas are listed at the end of this announcement.
 
Funding: Maximum USD $ 2’500’000
                       
Duration: 4 years
 
Eligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are eligible to apply, and there are no citizenship restrictions. Investigators at or above the level of Assistant Professor are eligible to apply.

They should contain contact information, a list of collaborators and key personnel, a preproposal narrative, and supporting documents as suggested on the platform.   • Longitudinal Studies: Studies of the natural evolution of post-traumatic epileptogenesis, which may include:
    • Seizure frequency and severity
    • Comorbidities (e.g., depression, functional deficits, sleep disorders, major illness)
    • Latency between injury and PTE
    • Mortality
    • Treatment
    • Quality of life of individuals with PTE
