Aim: Through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), the Department of Defense is announcing the Orthotics and Prosthetics Research Program (OPORP) for 2018. The OPORP Applied Research Award mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY18 and challenges the scientific community to address which orthotic and prosthetic devices, and which characteristics of those devices, generate the best patient outcomes. The mechanism is intended to support clinical research that evaluates orthotic and/or prosthetic devices using patient-centric outcomes relevant to Service members and Veterans with limb loss and/or limb impairment.
Applications to the FY18 OPORP CRA must address at least one of the Focus Areas; these are listed at the end of this announcement.
The FY18 OPORP CRA offers funding for two Funding Levels:
Funding: Funding level I - Maximum USD $ 350’000
Funding level II – Maximum USD $1’500’000
Duration: Funding level I - 2 years
Funding level II – 4 years
Eligibility: Applicants from international organizations or institutions are eligible to apply, and there are no citizenship restrictions. Independent investigators at any level are eligible to apply.
How to Apply: Pre-applications are submitted through the eBRAP platform. They should contain contact information, a list of collaborators and key personnel, a preproposal narrative, and supporting documents as suggested on the platform. Full applications (by invitation) will be made via a Grants.gov workspace. Full application packages can be downloaded from Grants.gov at any time.
