With this initiative, the Volkswagen Stiftung aims to support unique and excellent projects at the interface between the natural and life sciences that contribute to comprehending fundamental principles of life. Amongst others, the Foundation will consider approaches from Synthetic, Systems or Cell Biology, Xenobiology as well as Biophysics, Prebiotic Chemistry or similar research areas.
Restriction: projects dealing with basic biomedical research or treatment of diseases as well as the establishment of biomedical methods are not eligible.
Who can apply:
- Researchers in Germany at all stages of their postdoctoral career.
- Swiss-based researchers can be involved as international partners (up to 5) and are eligible for funding.
Funding & Duration: up to EUR 1.5 million for up to 5 years for direct project costs. Does not cover overheads.
