The Wellcome Trust “Collaborative Awards in Science” support Basic and clinical research in any disciplines carried out by a team of researchers, working together on the most important scientific problems to improve health for everyone.
Interdisciplinary projects across Science, Humanities and Social Science and Innovations teams are encouraged.
Who can apply
- The PI must be based in UK, Ireland or a Low or Middle income country.
- Swiss-based researchers can only join a consortium if they bring essential expertise or resources.
- The consortium must have between 2-7members.
- Applicants must hold an academic or research post (or equivalent) and have their salary covered through other sources for the duration of the grant.
Funding & Duration: Max. £4 million for up to 5 years
For what
- Personnel (salary for all research staff involved; excluding the PI and Co-PIs)
- Other: materials and consumables, animals, purchase of essential equipment (incl. VAT; if equipment > CHF 100’000 25% of its cost must be covered with own funding), one personal computer or laptop per person, access to essential equipment or facilities, travel, conference and subsistence costs, field research, publications, other.
- Does NOT cover: overhead, open access article processing charges and, for researchers outside of the UK, clinical studies or trials.

- Preliminary application: 19 November 2018, 17:00 GMT
- Full application: 28 February 2019, 17:00 GMT
- Shortlist decision: April 2019
- Interviews: 16-18 July 2019
