Aim: The Polio Research Committee is calling for research proposals supporting the Polio Endgame Strategy 2019-2023. Research proposals supporting the strategic plan may be submitted to the Committee for review and funding. Preference will be given to proposals developed by GPEI partner agencies and their research collaborators. However, other institutions may also submit proposals if they address our research priorities.
The Committee is looking for well-articulated proposals that propose research projects that will contribute significantly to polio eradication. The PRC funds a variety of studies from many disciplines including basic science research, operational research, mathematical modeling projects, and epidemiological studies/clinical studies.
Some common characteristics of funded proposals include:
Funding: Linked to project aims (median amount: $174K)
Duration: 24 months
Eligibility: This call for proposals is open to research institutions and private companies. Successful applicants will be required to conclude an agreement with WHO setting forth the terms applicable to the funding by WHO of the research activities.

The application form includes five sections: administrative information, project summary (2 pages), detailed research proposal (20 pages max.), budget, and final questions. - Focused and high quality proposal with clearly defined research questions and methodology
- Principal Investigator (PI) and collaborator (if available) have experience and demonstrated the ability to successfully conduct relevant research projects.
- Has significant and rapid value to the GPEI. Project can be completed in 24 months, and the findings can be immediately implemented or are scalable following completion.
