In the early nineties, the upcoming satellite geodesy revolutionized the national surveying in Switzerland. The new technology enabled a surveying exceeding the national borders and increased the coordinate accuracy significantly. As a consequence, we have today a new national reference frame, aligned to the European and international reference frames, which will replace the more than 100 years old Swiss reference frame LV03. Permanent GNSS networks were introduced beginning 2002 based on GPS. In the meantime they were enhanced by the Russian GLONASS and additional satellite systems from Europe, China and Japan are on they way to become operational in near future to improve the various existing applications. The presentation will focus on highlights in the past 20 years of GNSS at swisstopo, shows interesting present applications and addresses planned activities in the MULTI-GNSS era.
