Are you a Scala user or enthusiast? Do you want to meet other people who are using Scala at EPFL? Then join us for the Scala Lunch!
We are excited to announce that the next Scala Lunch will feature a talk by Andy Wingo entitled "A New Hope: Compiling Managed Languages to WebAssembly". In this talk, Andy will discuss how compiling to WebAssembly opens up opportunities for Scala programs to run in web browsers, edge, cloud, and embedded environments. He will share insights on the new "GC" extension to Wasm and the experience of writing a production compiler targeting Wasm/GC from Scheme. Andy will cover compilation strategy, pain points, and upcoming developments.
Andy Wingo is a compiler engineer at Igalia with 12 years of experience, primarily working on the JavaScript and WebAssembly run-time systems in Chrome and Firefox browsers. He is also involved in maintaining the Guile implementation of Scheme and has recently developed a Scheme-to-WebAssembly/GC compiler for Spritely Institute. Andy is based in Annemasse, France.
Join us on 08/02/2024 at BC410 for this exciting talk. Don't forget to bring your own lunch and join in the networking and knowledge sharing with fellow Scala enthusiasts.
This is a free and open event, registration is not required. Everyone is welcome, including those outside of EPFL.
See you there!
