The goal of this talk is to investigate the basic theory of ample line bundles for schemes over the integers. We will introduce basic numerical invariants which will allow for the theory to go parallel with geometric ampleness, and describe arithmetic analogues of basic results: cohomological criteria, Nakai-Moishezon (proved by Zhang), Bertini. This is joint work with Bost.
