The usefulness of Hamilton-Jacobi theory in Classical Mechanics is well-known, giving an alternative procedure to study and, in some cases, to solve the equations of motion. In recent years a geometric approach has permitted to extend the theory for other situations: nonholonomic mechanical systems, classical field theories, mechanical systems with symmetry. In this talk we will give a general overview on these recent results.
