Today bioenergy is worldwide one of the main renewable energy and will remain so in the future. International organisations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA) or the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show the relevance of bioenergy for power generation, heat and fuel production.
Traditionally bioenergy has been used for heating and heat production. Due to the significant global transformation of the energy system a reorientation of bioenergy as part of the economy is needed. The fact that bioenergy is only a small part of the future bioeconomy make this transformation process of bioenergy even more challenging.
In this talk an overview on the actual status of bioenergy is given, expected trends on future needs on bioenergy systems and national activities on bioenergy, i.e. the SCCER BIOSWEET.
