Image based technologies are widespread in science and in particular in life sciences. Digital imaging allowed for easy manipulation of data using techniques that were difficult or impossible to employ in the past. One growing concern in the scientific community is the degree of image processing that is acceptable. This seminar will outline pitfalls in image processing and display for image-based technologies as well as for scientific publications. More specifically we will explain and demonstrate which kind of image processing steps can be considered as acceptable and which must be considered as problematic or even as fraud.
