Architecture and politics, criticism, and history all come together in this volume, which analyses an important chapter in the antagonist thinking of the 1970s and opens up some new avenues of research into the role, function, and unexplored possibilities of the art of building within contemporary urbanization. Specialized in the works of Manfredo Tafuri, the author shows how the operative criticism of architecture was able to draw the ideological boundaries of the discipline and the material contours of a decisive sector of contemporary production, through a brilliant encounter between philosophy and technology, political militantism, and professional practices. In fact, this study is a perfect accompaniment to the re-publication of  Projet et Utopie by Entremonde, one of Manfredo Tafuri's classic texts. It provides both an introduction to and an exhaustive analysis of a work that needs to be rediscovered.

Marco Assennato (Palermo, 1978) is a philosopher with a doctorate in architecture. He teaches at ENSA-Paris Malaquais and, with Guillemette Morel-Journel, co-directs the ACS research laboratory. He is the author of La muse inquiétante – Architecture & Société chez Manfredo Tafuri, edition Mix, Paris, 2019.
