Event details

Date 28.02.2024
Category Call for proposal
Aim: The Charles Defforey Foundation was established to encourage research in scientific, humanitarian and cultural fields. It provides a range of annual prizes and occasional grants in collaboration with the Academies of the Institut de France. The Fondation Charles Defforey/Institut de France Scientific Grand Prize is awarded annually to provide financial support to a high-level research project on a specified theme.

For the 2024 Prize, the specified theme is ‘Dynamic systems and geometric flows’. Geometric flows are a powerful tool for studying non-linear partial differential equations arising from geometry. Introduced by Hamilton, the Ricci flow was used by Perelman in his spectacular proof of the Poincaré conjecture. The aim of the prize is to encourage outstanding research in the analysis of geometric evolution equations and their applications, in as broad sense as possible, combined, if necessary, with other mathematical techniques.

Duration:      not communicated

Funding:        EUR 400,000
The financial aid provided by the Prize could be used for operating costs such as consumables, equipment, travel expenses and cost of publications. It cannot be used for salaries.

Eligibility:    Open to international candidates
