This workshop focuses on biomaterials, bio-inspired, and biological materials. We attempt to mix biology and material science with design thinking and rapid prototyping. The aim of this workshop is to connect science and engineering students with artists and designers to explore new applications of biomaterials. We encourage participants to explore alternative ways of conducting scientific research in an interdisciplinary setting.

What would happen in Co-lab Biomaterials workshop.
  • DESIGN WORKSHOP: Brainstorming on the biomaterials using a human centered design thinking method. Creating a narrative where the materials are used in a everyday context.
  • LAB ROTATIONS: we will have lab activities around the topic of biomaterial. Participants will have the chance to touch, sense, and experiment on different materials, like kombucha, algea based materials, fungus materials, natural fibers.....
  • SCIENCE LECTURES : Short lectures on the biology and physics of the biomaterials will be given during the workshop.
  • PROTOTYPE MAKING:  On the last day of the workshop, we will  make tangible prototypes to demonstrate your group project.
