Category | Conferences - Seminars |
Almost all welded structures are submitted to multiaxial loadings which cause locally multiaxial stress states. Among them especially the ones with rotating principal stress directions are the most challenging in the strength and fatigue life assessment. Conventional hypothesis like von Mises, Tresca or Principal Stress fail; they are not able to indicate the fatigue life reduction which is caused by such stress states. Therefore, in the past years several research projects with welded steel, aluminium and magnesium joints were performed for the development of appropriate assessment methods basing on local stresses. The results found also access into the Fatigue Design Recommendations for Welded Structures of the International Institute of Welding (IIW).
This seminar will be followed 20-30 minutes of questions and some soft-drinks.
Bio : Cetin Morris SONSINO was educated at the Technische Universität Darmstadt (mechanical engineering diploma in 1972). He stated his professional career at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Structural Durability (LBF), Darmstadt, was head of the department „Component Related Material Behaviour“ from 1985 to 2003, as well as deputy director of the institute twice, and since 2003 has been member of the “Managing Board” of the institute. Since 2012 he is scientific-technical advisor and contact coordinator of LBF. Also, He is Professor at University of the Saarland since 1995, and at the Technische Universität Darmstadt “ since 2002.
His main professional fields are random amplitude fatigue, low-cycle fatigue, high-temperature fatigue, corrosion fatigue, development and fatigue life evaluation of welded, cast, forged, sintered and fibre reinforced plastic components and structures under service loading.
He received numerous awards for his research works, including the August Woehler Medal of the German Society of Materials Research and Testing (DVM ) in 2001. He has about 480 publications, 4 books, 170 seminars and lectures at conferences, universities and companies in Europe, USA and Far East and 3 patents.
