In this mini-course we shall present some applications of étale homotopy theory to the study of Diophantine equations. We show how étale homotopy theory provides a very general and natural way to obstruct solutions to Diophantine equations and how these obstructions give a unified description to the known obstructions to the local-global principle. An exposition to modern homotopy theory will be provided as well and will take up the first half of the mini-course.
