[ ETHZ - Exchange of young researchers with China | Research funding ]

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has commissioned ETHZ as Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) in all scientific disciplines.
 
ETHZ and CSC run the China – Exchange of Young Researchers Programme for applicants based in Switzerland and China who, after an initial contact set up at a symposium, workshop or alike, want to start research activities with their counterparts by:
1.       Hosting young Chinese scholars in Switzerland for 6-24 months. 
2.       Sending young Swiss researchers to China for max. 12 months.
The total budget for the 2019 call is CHF 285’000.
 
Who can apply: the Swiss Main Applicant must be a senior researcher holding a permanent position in an eligible Swiss institution. Note: The Chinese and Swiss partners must have set up initial contacts during a symposium, workshop, for a publication, the submission of a joint research proposal or alike.
 
The programme has the following formats:
 
1. Hosting young Chinese researchers in a Swiss research group:
·         The young scholar: PhD student or post-doctoral researcher registered/employed at an eligible Chinese institution throughout their stay in Switzerland. 
·         Funding: monthly allowance: CHF 4’400 per month for PhD students or CHF 4500 per month for postdoctoral researchers + max. CHF 250 for social charges if the Chinese visitor receives employee status at the Swiss institute.
·         Deadline: 12 April 2019
·         Applications must be submitted in parallel by the Swiss Main Applicant to ETHZ (as per p.3 of the call document) and by the Chinese applicant CSC (https://www.csc.edu.cn/chuguo/s/1532 and https://bg.csc.edu.cn/DownLoad.aspx?PROJECTCODE=620057).
·         Please contact the Director of your Institute to obtain a Letter of Support.
 
2. Sending young Swiss researchers to China:
·         The young scholar: PhD student or post-doctoral researcher registered/employed at an eligible Swiss institution throughout their stay in China. 
·         Funding: monthly allowance: CHF 2’000 per month for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers alike. Roundtrip economy ticket: max. CHF 2’000. Stays will have to be part of a research project or collaboration.
·         Deadline: 10 May 2019
·         Applications must only be submitted to ETHZ. No application to the CSC is required.
·         Please contact the Director of your Institute to obtain a Letter of Support.
