Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco and EPFL have launched the Excellence in Africa initiative with the aim of supporting the training of the next generation of researchers in Africa. This pathbreaking initiative is intended to hone the skills of Africa-based early-stage researchers through collaboration with, and/or supervision by, EPFL professors. It is based on the premise that this will help build their career as professors and thereby enable them to have a significant economic and societal impact in Africa.
The first call for proposals for the Junior Faculty Development program, which is the cornerstone of the Excellence in Africa initiative, is now open.
What Pairing up of early-stage professors in Africa with EPFL professors
Funding available for a jointly-designed research project to be completed over a period of 4 to 5 years
Secondment of the Africa-based professor in the laboratory of their colleague at EPFL
Who Citizens of any nationality may apply
Employment or prospect of employment as professor by a higher education institution in Africa
PhD earned between 1st January 2011 and 31st March 2020
Outstanding research and publication track record
Willingness to conduct a collaborative research project with an EPFL professor in one of the EPFL research domains
How to apply Africa-based early-stage professors are to apply on the online submission platform by 15 April 2020 - 17:00 CET (extended from 31 March 2020)
The candidates who receive the best grade and are successfully paired up with an EPFL professor will submit a full research proposal with their EPFL co-applicant by 25 August 2020 (17:00 CET) (extended from 10 August 2020)
