Thanks to the development of astronomical instrumentation it has been possible to give an answer to the old philosophical question: do other worlds exist in the Universe? We will discuss the huge amount of discoveries made during the last two decades. Today some researchers address a much more ambitious goal: to detect traces of Life outside our own solar system.
