Event details

Date 20.05.2020
Category Call for proposal
Aim: Facebook is issuing a call for academic research proposals that addresses the economic impact of digital technologies, including new tools that enable commercial opportunities. Facebook is especially interested in supporting projects that address the economic consequences and implications of developing digital technologies for small businesses. Topics of interest for this request for proposals (RFP) include, but are not limited to:
  • measuring new types of economic impact — for example, assessing the implications of digital technologies for growth,
  • resilience under challenging circumstances,
  • inclusion of marginalized groups,
  • efficiency of payment systems, or other business outcomes.

Facebook is keenly interested in supporting broader research efforts in this topic and therefore the scope of the RFP is not limited in application to Facebook apps and technologies. We encourage research teams around the world to apply with proposed projects of an empirical and theoretical nature; although, theoretical papers should also consider how measurements might be empirically estimated. Successful proposals will demonstrate innovative and compelling research that has the potential to advance science and understanding in the topic areas and provide value to policymakers, practitioners, and organizations working in these areas.

Funding:         USD $100’000

Duration:        1 year

Eligibility:  The RFP is open to researchers (faculty, PhD students, post-doctoral scholars, etc) from all disciplines. Awards must comply with applicable U.S. and international laws, regulations, and policies.

How to Apply: Applicants should submit a project summary detailing what contribution their research is expected to make, how the research domain will benefit from the work, and a project timeline. In addition, a budget description, a CV for each involved researcher, and organizational details should be included. For any assistance on the organizational details or tax information, please contact the Research Office. Budgets should be formulated to include 5% overhead (the maximum allowed in the program guidelines), as well as funds for travel for the Principal Investigator (PI) to attend a workshop in Menlo Park.

Deadline: 20 May 2020 (5:00 pm AOE)
