FEBS Long-Term Fellowships support long-term postdoctoral visits for the purpose of scientific collaboration or advanced training in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. FEBS Fellowships and Scholarships are intended to allow members of a FEBS Constituent Society to work in a laboratory in an academic institution in a different FEBS country from that in which they are normally working. The number of fellowships awarded varies each year. In 2017 and 2018, nine fellowships were awarded each time.
Who can apply:
- Only applications aimed at furthering the science of biochemistry and molecular biology are considered.
- FEBS members holding a PhD.
- The candidate must either come from an academic or research institution abroad or having joined the host laboratory no more than 9 months before the call deadline.
- Scientists who have been recipients of a FEBS Short-Term Fellowship or FEBS Collaborative Developmental Scholarship during the preceding 12 months are usually excluded if the host laboratory is to be the same.
- No more than one candidate per research group per call can receive a fellowship.
- This fellowship is not granted to a scientist who is receiving a grant from sources other than the FEBS Fellowship or a salary from sources other than the host institute
Funding and duration: 12 months, renewable for 1-2 years. The amount of the Fellowship will depend on the cost of living in the country visited.
Eligible costs: fellow’s stipend (according to FEBS rate; a top-up can be requested), travel costs and childcare. Does NOT cover research costs and overheads.
Deadline: 1 October (every year)
Decision: 31 December of the same year
Latest start: 30 June of the following year
Application: join a letter of support signed by the head of unit and institute director (a template is provided on the online application portal) and a referee’s letter of support.
